The Success Story of UH Group of Companies

The Genesis of the UH Group

The growth history of the U.H. Group of Companies is a direct testimony to foresight, unwavering attitude, and consistent effort. Sagar Sales, a small enterprise started in 1988 on B.H. Road in Kottakkal City, has today grown into a colossal industrial group.

The U.H. Group has now firmly established its roots in the fields of sales, marketing, and manufacturing of diverse products. This group has evolved into a major industrial powerhouse, encompassing more than ten different establishments across various sectors, and directly providing employment to hundreds of people.

The Innovation That Drove Early Growth

Sagar Sales quickly outgrew the confines of a local shop by pioneering a dynamic marketing system. While its headquarters remained in Kottakkal, the team didn’t wait for customers to arrive. Instead, they actively travelled on various routes to identify needs and deliver goods directly. This proactive approach accelerated the company’s growth, transforming Sagar Sales from a purely local entity into a major wholesale establishment with a widespread customer base.

Era of Diversification

Expanding Horizons

The success of Sagar Sales laid the groundwork for an ambitious and continuous process of diversification, guided by a sharp eye for emerging market trends.

Retail and Gifts (2008)

Recognizing the potential in the specialized retail sector, the group launched Wonder Land in 2008 at the Smart Trade City in Kottakkal. This retail outlet initially focused on high-quality gift items, primarily glassware sourced directly from Mumbai, establishing the Group’s first successful venture into consumer retail.

Mastering Imports

The Global Connection

The group’s growing retail and wholesale operations highlighted the need for efficient, direct sourcing.

  • Ojes Enterprises:

The success of Wonder Land paved the way for Ojas Enterprises. Initially starting its operations on B.H. Road in 2009, Ojas later relocated to Sooppy Bazar in 2010 for more extensive operations. As Ojas’s business grew beyond the capacity there, it purchased land on Yahoo Road, constructed a three-story building, and moved its operations there in 2011.

However, when the situation arose to transport goods in containers, the limitations of Yahoo Road became an obstacle. It was under those circumstances that a much wider area was purchased at Njarathadath, on Puthupparamba Road, and a very spacious godown was established in 2012. Operations continue to run very well at Njarathadath even today.

Mist is a special brand of Ojas.

  • JR Imports: With an increasing appreciation for the quality, beauty, and market potential of products from China, the strategic decision was made to establish a dedicated import arm: JR Imports. This crucial step included setting up a dedicated office and hiring staff in China, cutting out intermediaries and ensuring a stable supply of diverse goods, which were previously sourced from North Indian states.

JSJ Trade Group

Capitalizing on Trend

Around the same time, Melamine tableware became a major trend due to its attractive look and vibrant designs. Recognizing this opportunity and knowing the variety the Chinese market offered, the group leveraged JR Imports to source these items. To specifically market and distribute these melamine products, the JSJ Trade Group was launched, operating from Yahoo Road in Kottakkal. Blue Ocean is a recognized brand under the JSJ Trade Group.

Consolidation and Specialization

The Modern Structure

As the operations grew in scale, a critical restructuring was necessary to handle the sheer volume and complexity.

The Birth of Sagar Marketing

Sagar Sales had grown so vast that its existing facilities and limited godown space became a major challenge. This led to a monumental development: the construction of a state-of-the-art, extensive multi-level godown-cum-office building at Atteeri.

This physical expansion was coupled with a strategic organizational split:

  • Sagar Marketing was established as a new entity, encompassing the entire Sales and Marketing division of the original Sagar Sales.
  • The original Sagar Sales entity then focused entirely on Purchasing, becoming the dedicated procurement arm for Sagar Marketing, ensuring a streamlined and focused supply chain.

Kedija

Introducing a Proprietary Brand

Over time, Sagar Sales evolved its role further. While it initially focused only on purchasing for Sagar Marketing, it eventually diversified its own strategy. It launched a completely new proprietary brand called Kedija for sourcing and marketing unique products. Today, both Sagar Marketing and Sagar Sales operate with separate purchasing and marketing divisions, optimizing their respective market reach and product portfolios.

Venturing into Manufacturing: The Industrial Footprint

The Group’s most significant leap was the transition from trading and importing to becoming a successful manufacturer, establishing a true industrial footprint.

VMH Industries

The entry into the industrial sector began with VMH Industries. Initially, the company leased a facility in Panikkar Kundu and focused on producing practical items like study tables and ironing tables using particle boards.

  • Starlet: To efficiently distribute and market the goods produced by VMH Industries, a dedicated sales outlet named Starlet was established. Starting in Areekkal City on Pudupparamba Road, Starlet later incorporated the former Wonder Land outlet in Smart Trade City as an exclusive platform to sell VMH-manufactured items.

Hamco Furniture

The Furniture Powerhouse

The group further cemented its manufacturing leadership by entering the competitive furniture manufacturing sector.

  • Hamco Furniture Industries: This venture began with the purchase of land and the construction of an expansive, dedicated facility in Maravattam. Hamco produces a wide array of high-quality furniture, including sofa sets, teapoys, beds, and wardrobes. Riksa and Jesaji are the established furniture brands under Hamco.
  • Hamco Furniture Trading: Complementing the manufacturing unit, Hamco Furniture Trading was formed to manage the marketing, sales, and distribution of the finished goods produced by Hamco Furniture Industries.
  • Plan Master: An additional manufacturing unit, Plan Master, was established to focus on specialized home organization and utility items, such as shoe racks, planter stands, and various kitchen racks. Products from Plan Master are also efficiently marketed through Hamco Furniture Trading.
